Plants as producers of powerful actives
Evolution has enabled plants to produce a wide range of powerful bioactive substances. What
kind of substances that are produced will depend on the plant species and perception of signals
from surrounding environment.
Furthermore, plant cells can have different degrees of maturation, where the developmental
stage will determine which substances it produces. A plant stem cell is an undifferentiated
precursor cell, a cell that is in the first developmental stage and which has not yet started to
differentiate. It will produce actives where some are specific for plant stem cells from that
particular plant species.
